Concept

The project area represents a significant urban and functional component in the structure of Frankfurt (Oder). It is located at the interface between Germany and Poland, is a connecting space between the twin city of Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder), and is currently the focus of politics and the media as an inner-European border.

The aim of the urban redevelopment is to restore and complete the fragmented block structure in the historical city plan. New open spaces are specifically integrated into the existing urban open space framework – in particular through the connection to the pedestrian axis in extension of the Große Scharrnstraße, which will connect the Upper and Lower Market in the future, the Oder promenade, the Karl-Marx-Straße as well as through the design upgrade of Słubicer Straße to a fully-fledged city street.

A central component of the concept is the creation of a new, identity-forming „city entrance” in the area between the intersection points and the bridgehead, which underlines the urban significance of the location and unfolds an address-forming effect.

Through structural densification, three new building areas are created north and south of Słubicer Straße, which differ in their function and use, but at the same time stand in the tradition of the grown block structure and continue it.
