Profile

Studio M³ is an architecture and urban design firm. With a team of experienced, ambitious, and passionate professionals, we design and execute a wide range of building and planning projects.

We reliably guide our Clients through all project phases – from initial vision, needs assessment, and concept development, to securing building rights and successful realization.
In this process, we see ourselves not only as planners but as responsible partners who structure complex requirements, identify opportunities, and purposefully lead projects to success. Openness, transparency, and mutual respect form the foundation of our collaboration – both internally and externally. Our top priority is always the requirements and expectations of our Clients, as well as the added value for the public and users.

HOW WE WORK

Craft and Workshop
We understand our work as a craft and our studio as a workshop – a place for focused, collaborative work where ideas are born and developed. We work meticulously, with an open mind, yet consistently goal-oriented. We approach every project with curiosity, openness, and creativity, combining this attitude with years of experience and profound expertise.

Focus and Scale
A key focus of our work is residential construction, specifically the creation of new and the transformation of existing neighborhoods. By combining these two scales, we consistently integrate architecture and urban planning. Because a good city starts small. The precisely developed detail – at all scales – is essential for the design quality and everyday usability of our projects.

This approach creates places that invite appropriation, enable encounters, allow for diversity, and understand the city as a social space – a nuanced response to the complex demands of our time.

Collaboration Means Added Value
For us, our work is always teamwork. Our projects are developed in close exchange with Clients, public administrations, specialist planners, and other stakeholders. We actively seek dynamic dialogue with all parties involved – Clients, specialist planners, authorities, and other actors – to develop an integrative, viable, and sustainable understanding of the respective task, even when interests may sometimes differ. In doing so, we always keep the entire process in mind and not only accompany, but actively shape it. We are convinced that every place holds the potential for intelligent, integrative solutions that create genuine added value for all involved.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO US

Human-Centered Architecture
At the core of all our considerations is the human being. We understand urban planning and architecture as human disciplines that create spaces with a clear and accessible human scale – usable and sensually experienceable.

Place and Development
Every design evolves from the specific situation of its location. We carefully analyze existing structures with the aim of utilizing, developing, and enhancing them. We strive for clear, precise design responses that function as robust yet sustainable urban building blocks, generating long-term added value in the sense of a timeless urban return.

Space and Identity
Our work is characterized by a pronounced three-dimensional thinking that focuses on spatial and atmospheric quality, character, haptics, and not least usability, creating specific, identity-forming spaces that appeal to the senses and, ideally, evoke an emotional connection.

Appropriability
We understand urban planning and architecture not as a rigid outcome, but as a living framework for people’s lives. We create spaces that are not fully determined, but rather allow for appropriation and room for interpretation.

Structure
We organize our buildings with robust, flexible, and sustainable floor plans that can accommodate future requirements not yet foreseeable today. We are always aware of the economic and structural challenges of project developments and understand spatial economic efficiency as an integral part of our planning task.

M3
M3 is derived from the three Ms in the names of the founders Christoph Michael and Maximilian Müller. The M is the base, the 3 is the exponent. M3 is also the unit of measurement for our material, space.

Studio M³ was founded in 2017 as part of the international network MLA+ from Rotterdam (NL).
Since 2024, the office has been operating independently.
