Concept

The approximately two-hectare site is located at the heart of Neuaubing, on the western edge of Munich. The surrounding area is characterised by post-war residential buildings of medium density.

As part of a comprehensive redevelopment, the outdated local shopping centre will be replaced by a new mixed-use structure that introduces a broader range of urban functions. In addition to retail, the proposal includes a family centre with a childcare facility, spaces for services, and new residential units. The scheme is complemented by the reorganisation and enhancement of the surrounding public realm – particularly along Wiesentfelser Straße – strengthening connections to the green urban landscape to the south.

Architecturally, the design draws inspiration from the clarity and structure of post-war modernism. Freestanding volumes are arranged to create fluid transitions to the green spaces to the north and west, while a more defined urban edge is established to the east. To the south, an urban square frames the entrance to the new underground station on the extended U5 line, providing a strong spatial anchor at a key point of arrival.
